box
Privacy
box collects nothing about you. Here is everything it does over the network.
- No account, no telemetry, no analytics.
- box does not identify you, does not count you and does not send anything about how you use it. Optersoft receives nothing from the program.
- Two kinds of download, both to create a machine.
- The list of images comes from Microsoft's WSL index (https://raw.githubusercontent.com/microsoft/WSL/master/distributions/DistributionInfo.json). The image itself comes from the distribution's own server: releases.ubuntu.com, download.fedoraproject.org, salsa.debian.org or github.com for AlmaLinux. Those servers see an ordinary download from your address, under their own privacy policies.
- Everything else stays on your computer.
- Machines, their disks and box's settings live under
%APPDATA%\box. If~/.ssh/id_ed25519.pubexists, box copies that public key into the machines it creates, and nowhere else. - Removing it.
box delete <name>removes a machine and its disk. Uninstalling box leaves the machines you made, because they are yours: delete them first if you want them gone.
